The "Juke In The Back" is proud to dedicate an entire show to Jesse Belvin, one of the greatest talents to come out of LA in the 1950s.
Belvin was born in Texas, but raised near Central Avenue in Los Angeles, where he soaked up the local R&B scene. After transferring to Jefferson High School, he fell in with Richard Berry, Gaynel Hodge and other budding vocal talents.

This week on Deep Dive we enjoy the music of one of my favourite artists, Caribbean and English singer Joan Armatrading. We go down to zero, come into dry land, and learn to mix more water with the wine. We also celebrate our fourth birthday, so it's a bit of a party show.

Elmore James never tried to have crossover success. He was a bluesman through and through; an ambassador of the Mississippi Delta Blues with a modern, 1950s electric twist. It was wonderful to know the show was in good hands while I was in Wisconsin attending the funeral for my father-in-law, and spending time with family. I'm back this week however, and, due to the state of the world internationally and nationally, and the fact that I have two relatives who are critically ill in my own family, I decided it would be nice to play songs that make me smile.
